EDI performed environmental inspection and abatement design services at the Everett McKinley Dirksen Federal Courthouse building located in downtown Chicago. The environmental inspection of this 1,400,000 square foot, 33-story, occupied building included the identification of asbestos-containing materials (ACM), lead-based painted (LBP) surfaces, and other hazardous materials throughout the building that may be impacted by renovation activity. EDI also investigated the presence of other hazardous materials, and developed asbestos abatement design drawings and specifications. EDI provided onsite abatement oversight throughout the renovation activities. EDI completed similar work for the 45-story John C. Kluczynski Federal Building renovation.
EDI also had a key engineering and environmental role on the nearly $21 million renovation of Federal Plaza. Our role included civil engineering, professional land surveying, and environmental consulting services for the rehabilitation of this architecturally significant site in downtown Chicago. Environmental work such as ACM and LBP surveys, a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment of the project site, and above-ground storage tank consulting was completed by EDI staff.
