O’Hare Modernization Program

EDI has performed over 100 Phase I ESAs on O’Hare International Airport parcels potentially affected by the O’Hare Modernization Program (OMP) for the City of Chicago. The Phase I ESAs included facilities operated by the City of Chicago Department of Aviation (CDA), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), United Airlines (UAL), American Airlines (AAL), Federal Express, Airport Group International, Inc. (AGI), and others. Our professionals utilized their knowledge and experience in performing Phase I ESAs in order to provide the CDA with a product that the City can utilize for future runway and airport development.

EDI also performed several, subsequent Phase II ESAs on effected OMP parcels. The objective of this work is to investigate subsurface soils in the vicinity of identified Recognized Environmental Conditions (RECs) associated with future airport facilities, in preparation for future work and completion of lease agreements between the City of Chicago and the FAA. Phase II ESAs were conducted on parcels such as two sites for a fueling facility relocation, and on the site slated for the relocation of FedEx’s new O’Hare facility.
