University of Chicago Laboratory Schools
EDI serves as the Civil Engineer of Record for the large, multi-disciplinary team charged with ultimately producing the design for the expansion and renovation of the University of Chicago Laboratory Schools (UCLS). The campus's existing eight buildings total approximately 380,500 gross square feet and range from five to over 100 years old. Many spaces were in need of major infrastructure repairs and upgrades, with some facilities outliving their functionality and no longer meeting the school's needs moving forward.
EDI's role in the project includes LEED® design; site demolition design support; and production of all civil drawings and calculations required to obtain permitting from the City of Chicago. EDI Civil Engineers are also in charge of preparing the full Construction Documentation set required to build out multiple sites involved in the expansion. Additionally, EDI is contracted to provide bid and construction support services focused on insuring that all elements of the site construction are completed in accordance with plans and technical specifications.
