Environmental Design International inc. (EDI) kicks off 2011 with Eminent Conceptor win for Exelon City Solar

Selected from 12 engineering firms who received Honor Awards in the 2011 ACEC-Illinois Engineering Excellence competition, EDI received the Eminent Conceptor Award at the organization's awards luncheon on February 4, 2011. This distinction "recognizes an engineering achievement which demonstrates a high degree of merit and ingenuity, contributes to the advancement of the private practice of engineering and enhances the economic and social welfare of the general public."

In 2009, Exelon Corporation contracted SunPower Corporation to build a solar power plant on a 41-acre brownfield in Chicago's West Pullman neighborhood. EDI played a significant engineering role providing Site/Civil Engineering, Environmental Consulting, Industrial Hygiene, and Survey services for Exelon City Solar, a 10-megawatt solar power plant. With an aggressive construction schedule and a site plagued with challenges, EDI and the design team provided an innovative, low-impact site design. EDI also provided crucial environmental expertise that aided in this high-profile project's success. The plant, which came on line in March 2010, is expected to produce enough electricity to power an estimated 1,500 homes annually.
