EDI Project News Spring 2014

EDI Civil Engineers Designing Green Infrastructure for MWRD

To address basement flooding from combined sewer backup in a Blue Island neighborhood, EDI was contracted to identify and design green infrastructure improvements such as rain gardens, bioswales, and permeable pavement. The work is part of a Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago (MWRD) project that aims to reduce runoff volume and pollutants before it is conveyed to the area proned to flooding.

EDI met with MWRD and Blue Island officials to evaluate methods and general locations within the City's public right-of-ways where there are opportunities to infiltrate stormwater runoff and capture pollutants from the local roadway pavement and adjacent residential areas that drain toward the right-of-ways.

According to the USEPA, green infrastructure is cost-effective and provides many community benefits. "While single-purpose gray stormwater infrastructure is largely designed to move urban stormwater away from the built environment, green infrastructure reduces and treats stormwater at its source while delivering many other environmental, social, and economic benefits. These benefits not only promote urban livability, but also add to the bottom line."

EDI Transportation Project Portfolio Expands

EDI continues to provide comprehensive professional services on an ever-expanding variety of Illinois Tollway and IDOT projects ranging from Phase III Engineering as Joint Venture partner with Ardmore Associates for IDOT's I-94 (Bishop Ford Expressway)/Stoney Island Interchange Improvements; to the Tollway's Maintenance Facilities Master Plan as subconsultant to Epstein.

SurveyOther current IDOT work in District One as prime includes a Various Survey contract, and a Joint Venture contract with Bloom Companies for Various Phase I Engineering projects. EDI is also providing survey services as a subconsultant for the Illiana Corridor Project land acquisition.

As a prime consultant to the Illinois Tollway, EDI is providing Phase II and Phase III engineering services for ramp rehabilitation and reconstruction on the Ronald Reagan Memorial Tollway and the Jane Addams Memorial Tollway. An additional prime Illinois Tollway contract includes construction management as needed projects for the I-294/57 Interchange. EDI was a team member on four successful project pursuits in 2013, and is contracted to provide survey and construction inspection services to firms such RS&H, Spaceco, Parsons Brinkerhoff, and DLZ, in 2014 and 2015.

EDI Awarded Illinois Medical District (IMD) Environmental Services Contract

By showcasing past experience providing environmental services for development projects directly for IMD, and other institutions and agencies located within the district, EDI was one of four successful consultants responding to a solicitation in late 2013. The IMD recently concluded a strategic planning process in consultation with its major partner institutions located within the IMD.  A number of  initiatives were identified to achieve the IMD's mission of becoming a leader in patient care and medical research while driving economic growth. IMD will expect its Environmental Consultants to support this mission.
