Joan M. Mazurek

Vice President, Chief Financial Officer

With EDI since 2011, Joan has over 20 years of experience in accounting for privately owned companies and small businesses.

Joan’s career in accounting happened by chance while she was in college. She initially wanted to be a lawyer and decided to major in accounting because someone had recommended it as a good foundation for business. Joan soon realized that she really enjoyed accounting and she was able to get a job right out of college at a public accounting firm. At the firm, she moved up from staff accountant to Manager of Accounting and Audit Practices. Joan would move on to be the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of a real estate and auction company, two law firms, and now EDI.

Joan believes that the most rewarding part of her job is helping people understand something financially that they didn’t understand before. She enjoys helping businesses increase their profit, and in turn she likes helping them find ways to keep that profit.

Joan is a member of several professional organizations which include Financial Executives International (FEI), the Illinois Certified Public Accountants (CPA) Society, and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). She is also on the board of Executive Leaders in Transition Exchange (ELITE).

Joan’s advice for someone who is in college, or looking to start a career in Accounting:
“Accounting is a great field to get into! Ask a lot of questions, learn as much as possible from everyone you meet, and never stop being curious.”
