Gary Flentge named Vice President, Business Development

Environmental Design International inc. (EDI) recently announced that Gary P. Flentge, MPH, LEHP, REPA, CESCO, has been selected as the firm’s Vice President, Business Development.

Mr. Flentge has been with EDI since May 2008. Since then he has rebuilt the firm’s Industrial Hygiene practice, while repositioning EDI as a top-tier provider of comprehensive hazardous materials and air quality consulting, and health and safety in the region.

In his new position, Mr. Flentge will spearhead the firm’s business development efforts across all business units including Civil Engineering, Construction Engineering, Survey, Environmental Consulting, and Industrial Hygiene. He will report to Leslie J. Sawyer, EDI’s President and CEO, and will be charged with aligning EDI’s business development plan with broader strategic goals for the firm’s service line and geographic area expansion.In addition, he will continue to provide technical oversight for EDI’s Industrial Hygiene clients.

“Gary’s diverse technical background and his passion for business development and superior client service will allow us to further our momentum in the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic,” said Ms. Sawyer. “The breadth and depth of his knowledge of EDI’s capabilities and client base will be the cornerstone of his success in this new role.”

Mr. Flentge joined EDI with more than 20 years of experience in private consulting and public service, including directing and managing statewide environmental health programs for the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH). He is a Licensed Environmental Health Practitioner (LEHP) and holds technical and professional licensure in multiple states. Mr. Flentge currently participates in several environmental-focused boards and associations and is involved with several not-for-profit groups targeted at fundraising for cancer awareness and treatment. He is a member of the Illinois Chapter of the American Industrial Hygiene Association and the National Safety Council.
