Chicago Housing Authority
EDI has provided professional environmental engineering services to the Chicago Housing Authority (CHA) since 1996. During this ongoing relationship, our responsibilities have grown to include asbestos and lead-based paint inspections and abatement oversight; perimeter air sampling during demolition, underground storage tank (UST) removal, remediation, and project oversight; indoor air quality and mold investigations; and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) testing, remediation planning, and community relations.
CHA relies on EDI to provide sound, detailed specifications for the abatement of environmental hazards. Throughout the years, EDI has frequently been requested to provide emergency response services to CHA. EDI has been able to mobilize immediately and address the emergency at hand. Testing has been performed without delay, and all work completed within a few days of notification. In cases where abatement activities posed a threat to residents or abatement workers, EDI has been careful to implement the necessary safety measures on all projects.
EDI has supported the CHA in public hearings, demonstrating an ability to listen to residents, understand and respond to their concerns. CHA continues to award EDI with ever-greater responsibilities within its citywide system. Currently, EDI is responsible for enrolling a 16-acre property into the Site Remediation Program, which is regulated by the Illinois EPA. EDI successfully accommodated the schedule and completed soil, groundwater, and magnetometer investigations. Future duties will include a comprehensive site investigation and a remedial report and action plan, designed to address groundwater analysis and site contaminants.
